Hiking Shoes

(this is what came up in google when I typed in "stupid hiking shoes" and while I don't count crocs as being hiking shoes...they sure are stupid)
Never in my life would I have thought it would be so difficult to find hiking/waterproof shoes for under $100. I mean, hiking's pretty common right? Typical outdoorsy thing to do so you'd think that some cheap-o company would get in there and swoop in with deals. However, this is clearly not the case seeing as I've spent the past three hours scouting out various REI-esque stores online and coming up with zilch on the scale of afforable/waterproof/non-sperry shoes. It'd be great if I could just wear my normal shoes and just rubber band a plastic bag around 'em and not slip-slide all around but noooooo that'd be a wee bit on the impractical side. So I am left to try and come up with as many combinations as possible using the words "waterproof", "hiking" and "shoes".
Other than that i'm about two shakes from passing out so this blog will be painfully short as my eyes are becoming bleary and I can only see out of vague slits.
moral of the story = hiking shoes are overpriced and I hope to have better luck tomorrow
